“Hommage à Rilke”, a choral work to poems by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) written in 1984
contains, among others, Ferenc Farkas's artistic confession. In the third movement of the set the coexistence of various styles in his oeuvre is expressed by the words: "O sage Dichter, was Du tust? / Woher dein Recht in jeglichem Kostüme / In jeder Maske wahr zu sein? [O say, poet, what you do? / Whence comes your right, in every mask, / In every costume, to be true?]. The cycle built on poems of aphoristic brevity discussing death emphasizes the life-philosophical message of the poems in the first place. The first movement (An allen Dingen) represents nature's everlasting round in the form of a two-part canon, the second one (Herbst) focuses on the autumn-mortality-falling leaves motif, in the already mentioned third movement (O sage, Dichter) the restless inquisitive recitation is followed by the alienated poet's voice, reply expressed by slow threepart chords and the relentlessly active life-sound of the fourth piece (Wir sind die Treibenden) is substituted by the chordal standstill of death.

Az 1984-ben írt kórusmű, a Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) verseit feldolgozó „Hommage à Rilke” többek között Farkas Ferenc ars poetica-szerű hitvallását tartalmazza. ,,O sage Dichter, was Du tust? / Woher dein Recht in jeglichem Kostüme / in jeder Maske wahr zu sein?” [A tiszted, költő, mondd, mi itt? / Mi rá a jogcím, hűnek tudni éned, / Bár folyton újabb mezbe bújsz?] - a sorozat 3. tételében e szavakkal fogalmazza meg a különböző stílusok jelenlétét oeuvre-jében. A haláltematikájú, aforisztikus rövidségű versekre épülő ciklus elsősorban a költemények életfilozófiai üzenetét hangsúlyozza. Az 1. tétel (An allen Dingen) kétszólamú kánon formájában a természet örök körforgását jeleníti meg, a 2. (Herbst) az ősz-elmúlás-hulló falevelek motívumot járja körül, a már említett 3. tételben (O sage, Dichter) a nyugtalan kérdő recitációt követően az elidegenedett költő hangja-válasza szólal meg, háromszólamú, lassú mozgású akkordok formájában, míg a 4. darab (Wir sind die Treibenden) kíméletlenül tevékeny élet-hangját a halál akkordikus mozdulatlansága váltja fel.
